The arena has a great setup, which caters to both casual gamers and competitive players. It's free to students which is awesome and the hours are consistent to be able to play after classes and into the night. They are closed on home football games though. The staff deserves special mention for their professionalism and passion. They keep the place running smoothly while creating a welcoming atmosphere for everyone. The tournaments are well-organized, and the setups are perfect.
This place used to be fun, but lowkey is trash now. The hours are never accurate online. They seem to be open some days and close others with zero consistency. Today is april 18th, and I am writing this review around 2:30, they are not open even when their website says they should be. This has happened many, many times. The schedule from their website is attached. A large portion of the popular games(valorant, pubg, league, CS2) don't work well or need constant and lengthy updates despite updating the same game on the same computer the day before?? When downloading games off steam, it is a 50/50 whether they will run. League of Legends, the game that used to be the most played game at this facility, has not worked for 5 months despite constant reminders from multiple players over multiple months that League would crash upon launch. I know they are aware of the problem, I dunno if they just don't care or if it really takes 5+ months to solve whatever the problem is. I was fine previously with dealing with the bugs and horrible hours as the gaming center was free and a cool community to meet others playing video games. However, now that you have to pay for it AND nobody seems to play here anymore AND none of the games work, it just isn't worth the headache. I'm not sure if it is inept management or no funding, but this place sucks. 2 stars because the front desk employees are always nice. Also, I am not just a hater, I have been coming here for years and even applied to work here to try to fix some of the problems, I want this place to succeed, but something has to change.
Employees are awesome here. Computers here are good and work. They've got a lot of things here and it's free if you've given Kristina Johnson thousands of tuition dollars.
